Leading Experience Organizations
Mature A Product Design Culture
At Siemens PLM I had the following ‘how might we’ statement that was the vision for the Product Design team I led. How might we embed Product Designers in an engineering driven culture and inspire them to build a product for their evolving customer base? My role was to establish and grow a UX community around Activeworkspace, a web-based Product Lifecycle Management product. Here is a video (Min 8 - 26) of the redesigned software I led with a team of 27 Product Designers. From a leadership point of view I created a UX assessment to help have meaningful conversations with my team and our leadership about our talent needs. *Please note I was under strict NDA and can not share any work product.
Organizational Change
I was asked to centralize and lead the User Experience team at ReachLocal. This version of the presentation has been altered but expresses my vision for the organization. The original presentation was used as a tool to gain buy-in from the high level executives within the Product & Technology organization.
Wireframes
Often I am asked to help stakeholders visualize an application. My tool of choice is wireframing to show how a component of an application will work on a device (web, mobile, tablet). One of the more complex projects I worked on was the redesign of the payments process on www.metropcs.com.
Vendor and Platform Acquisition:
Throughout my career I have been asked to vet, select, contract, negotiate, implement and maintain a variety of technologies specific to online. A few notable technologies that I managed for many years included, the Oracle/Endeca, Mercado/Adobe search platforms and the Oracle/ATG platform. The RFP was the foundation for a three year partnership with an outside vendor that led to the re-platforming of www.metropcs.com.
Document Repository
Worked with the Marketing organization to define requirements, identify technology, design, develop and deploy a document repository that targeted the Sales organization. The technology used to build this site includes: Drupal for the CMS, Solr for the search module, Oracle for SSO and several integrations with third party vendors. This site was launched first quarter of 2014. My roles included: Project Manager, Development Manager and Information Architect. There is no link to see additional pages since this is an internal site.
Product Management
Superpages.com used my search expertise to drive click through rates on the site as well as create engagement through deals, maps and other compelling content. It was my job to work with data scientist and engineers to maintain and alter the search algorithm to maximize click through rates and optimize real estate on the page. My portfolio walks through a variety of projects I led and the different roles I played while at Supermedia.
User Research
As part of any project I work on user research is a critical success factor. Understanding the user helps me build better products. Whether I am conducting the research or leading the research team I find human behavior fascinating. While working at Blockbuster Online I was the Usability Manager running tests twice a month. The attached presentation is the synthesis of my research around how changing rate plans was perceived by potential customers and current customers.
User Experience
With a seven year career at JCP.com I learned all aspects of eCommerce. Directly managed the search platform, led a redesign for check out and gift registry as well as a site wide redesign. My role at JCP was centered around the customer, learning about their wants and needs in order to implement new features that balanced business value/feasibility/customer centricity. Attached is research work samples to demonstrate my ability to conduct and pitch recommendation to product teams.
